Date and place of Birth: July 30, 1938 in Tunis. Married and father of two children
Nationality: Tunisian.
Education:
1- High school: College Sadiki of Tunis
2- University studies: University of Tunis, licence in language and English literature
3- Speciality: International relations of Columbia University - New York

Functions
1963: Ministry of Foreign Affairs
1967: Economic Counselor at the Tunisian Embassy in Washington
1970: Counselor at Tunisian Embassy in Paris
1973: Deputy Director of the international co-operation at the Ministry of Foreign Affaires
1975: Chief Cabinet of the Minister of Foreign Affairs
1976: Ambassador of Tunisia in Abu Dhabi
1977: Ambassador of Tunisia in Tokyo
1981: Ambassador of Tunisia in Washington
1988: Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
1991: Minister of Foreign Affairs
1997: Minister of Defense
1999-2004 : Minister of Foreign Affairs
2005: Minister, Diplomatic Counselor at the Presidency of the Republic of Tunisia
2006 (2/1/2006): Secretary General of the Arab Maghreb Union
Diplomatic missions
1- Took part at different international and regional meetings (UN, Arab league, African Union , EU - Euromed Process of Barcelona - - Mediterranean Forum - Dialogue 5+5)
2- Special envoy and Representative of H.E. the President of Republic of Tunisia to many missions.
4- Member of several reflexion commissions, regional and international, and resolution of the conflicts (in Africa and Middle East).
5- President of the Tunisian delegation for several negotiation and bilateral commissions.
6- Author of conferences in fora universities.
