President Ben Ali Receives Secretary General of Arab Maghreb Union

During his meeting with Mr Habib Ben Yahia, the Secretary General of the Arab Maghreb Union (AMU), President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali stressed the importance of pursuing the process of Maghrebi meetings, so as to further coordinate cooperation in the Maghreb and raise it to the level of an active partnership.

Following the meeting, Mr Habib Ben Yahia said he congratulated the Head of State on the occasion of the celebration of the 20 th anniversary of the Union.
He also said he handed the Head of State a report on the Union's activity in 2008, relative to cabinet meetings devoted to the main issues, and which are part of the line of action of AMU countries, aiming at setting up a common Maghrebi strategy in the key sectors of the economy, finances, infrastructure, human resources and food security.
President Ben Ali stressed the importance of this celebration to impulse a new start to common Maghrebi action, so as to raise it to the level of hope and aspirations of the peoples of the region and to enable the countries of the Maghreb to meet the challenges imposed by the world economic situation
