Activities of Maghreb committees and their recent meetings were under focus as President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali conferred, on Monday, with Arab Maghreb Union (AMU) Secretary General Habib Ben Yahia.

At the end of the meeting, Mr. Habib Ben Yahia said he had informed the Head of State of recommendations coming out of the specialised ministerial committees which met in the course of this year to look at such strategic sectors as health, transport, food security and fight against desertification.

The AMU Secretary General also reported to the Head of State on the proceedings of several of these committees, in particular the Human Resources Committee which had focused on the issue of youth alongside Maghreb higher education ministers.

He also said that President Ben Ali had reasserted that Maghreb partnership is in the interest of all Maghreb peoples and countries and is the foundation of security and stability in the region.

The Head of State, he went on saying, underlined that Maghreb complementarity is an urgent need to serve mutual interests and face up to the serious world crises.
